The Dior Institut at the Plaza Athénée is a luxurious spa ensconced in a sumptuous hotel located in one of the most splendid cities in the world – Paris. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Institut is a nominee for a Luxist award in the best day spa category. The connection between the Plaza Athénée and Christian Dior dates back to 1947, when the fashion house’s namesake and founder chose the hotel as a place to photograph and showcase his models. Soon he began to invite his best customers there for lunch, or eat by himself in a private dining room. Dior even named a couple of his designs “Plaza” and “Athénée.”

Kiehl’s Acai Toning Mist for Earth Day 2010

In honour of Earth Day 2010 cosmetics brand Kiehl’s have teamed up with personalities from the worlds of art, music, film and sport to create a limited edition series of their Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist that will raise money for environmental causes.

Kiehl’s have invited Jeff Koons, Pharrell Williams, Julianne Moore and pro-surfer Malia Jones to each create special packaging for their 100% organic, antioxidant, skin rejuvenating spray.   An honourable 100% of profits is being donated from each sale to the Rainforest Alliance, with the aim of raising $200,000.

This season, MAC has unveiled its newest Viva Glam spokespersons: ’80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper and “Telephone” darling Lady Gaga. The pairing is sheer genius: Lauper challenged social norms in her day with her quirky, experimental, but always fun sense of style, while Gaga has conquered global stages with her often outlandish and avant-garde outfits, which emphasize the performance art aspects of her repertoire. Tom Ford has confirmed he’ll launch womenswear under his namesake label. In October he announced he was looking for financing, and everyone in fashion who’s been positively shvitzing over his return to the ladies’ market wondered and hoped he’d come back for fall 2010. Seeing as the fall 2010 shows are almost over, that’s evidently not happening. But WWD has heard Ford is quietly recruiting womenswear designers, and may have an accessories specialist onboard.
